How Could I be so CLUELESS!?!?!

Glad to be back!
Now, I really should not admit this but here goes. First a little back story:
We moved from Tx. 10 years ago to SW Florida.  I was 8 miles from Sanibel so I was on the beach all the time. When my son was in 1st grade and at school, I'd take my 2 yr. old over and enjoy the beaches. Then I'd push her  in her stroller until she was asleep and I'd go shelling! It was great. Coming from growing up around Galveston Island I really didn't know one shell from the other- it's pretty much "driveway-shells" on those beaches. Well, I certainly didn't know the names of shells here, but I knew they were something special! So, I'd collect everything I liked, clean them up and stick them in a jar. Now, fast forward to 10 yrs. later. My dad needed some shells for these cool display tables he makes and asked me to look thru my jars to see if there was anything he could use. Well, when I found this I was speechless!  I must have found this Junonia before I knew what a great find it would be!  Even get my picture in the paper on Sanibel (which I'm still shooting for).
It's pretty thin and busted- but who cares?

4 1/2 " long
So, I have moved it out of it's hiding place and will really be on the hunt for a Junonia now!!

Have a great week-  and let me know your best find.

  1. Hahaha that's so funny. It's still more of a Junonia than I have ever found. I am curious about your dad's tables - I would love to see a photo if you ever think of it.
OK so my best find is a purple fan coral that I found in the Keys. I just love the color!

  2. I find cool shells in the driveway shells all the time but not the Big Jay. You better keep digging and see what other treasures you can come up with.

    Take good care,

    Karen

  4. That's still a nice find. Your thin and busted one is 10 times better than my 2 x 3" piece of one. I'm heading down this weekend tho - so I'm on the hunt. Wish me luck!
